Building Our First House - We Broke Ground & Building Progress Pics!

Image
HI Beauties . After 3 long months of waiting, the day we've been anxiously anticipating has finally arrived!! Our home build has officially begun! Woohoo!!! Our builders broke ground on our new house July 17th, and have gotten busy since then pouring footers, putting up forms and pouring foundation walls. I'm surprised and excited about how quickly things are coming along! I'm seeing a lot of rain in the forecast for next week though, so hopefully the workers will be back on Monday to waterproof the walls and finish up the foundation. Here are some photos from this week to show you our new house's progress~ 4/13  Our Lot Pre-Construction  7/17 They've Broken Ground! 7/17 We Have a Hole!! Building Our First House - Our Lighting Choices

Hi Beauties . Hope everyone's having a fabulous week! Thank you all for the love on my last "Building Our First Home: Exterior Color Choices" post! I'm flattered that you guys liked our selections! :) If you didn't have a chance to see them yet, be sure to check out my post  Here :  Building Our First House ~ Exterior Color Choices Today, I'm going to be sharing our interior and exterior lighting choices! We decided to upgrade the lighting on the first floor of the home where we will be entertaining our guests (foyer, dining, living, kitchen, powder room). On the second floor we opted for standard lighting. I actually much preferred the style of the standard lighting for both the master and hall bath vs. the pavilion collection, which I found a bit too "scrolly" for a less formal setting.  Our hallway lighting and exterior lighting are also standard, and I actually rather like them!   As far as additional upgrades, we added a recessed

Hi Beauties. Hope all of you are having a fab week! I wanted to thank you all so much for the love on my last "Building Our First Home" post!  read it here:   Color Selection Appointment & Design Center Today I will be sharing our exterior color choices! :) Let me start off by saying, choosing a siding color was by far the hardest choice we made in this entire process. I feel that the exterior of a home is a true reflection of it's owners; and there were 3 things that we were certain we wanted for our new home, - a front porch - colonial or southern feel/ siding color -red front door BUT, herein lies the problem when working with a development builder.. typically, (at least this was the case for us) you must adhere to the builder's rules and the HOA. For us this meant, our siding and brick color had to be different from all of our bordering neighbors. It also meant, no red front door. Lucky for us, we are the first home to be built on one side of the

Building Our First House - Color Selection Appointment & Design Center

HI Beauties . First and foremost, I would like to thank all of you for the heartfelt well wishes and congratulations on our new home news! We are so excited to be sharing this exciting time with all of you!  and so our Journey begins...  Since choosing our home lot and signing our contract in April, we have anxiously awaited our June color selection appointment at our builder's design center.   The "color selection appointment" is essentially a 8 hour long day where you choose absolutely EVERYTHING for your house. (Yes, I said 8 HOURS) lol.  To avoid completely overwhelming yourself, I highly recommend visiting your home builder's design center or showroom as many times as possible PRIOR to your appointment and contract signing. I'm fairly confident that the employees at our design center thought I was totally crazy; as I must have visited nearly 10 times with my husband and mom in a two month period ;)  However trust me when I say, you will

Building Our First House - Dunkirk Model

HI   Beauties . As many of you know, I have been a bit MIA for the past few months in the youtube/blogging world. With my husband's detachment from the Navy, starting a new job, and moving back to Southern Maryland; things have been hectic! But we've also been very busy with something exciting! ...  My Husband and I are Building Our First Home !!! In our 6 years as a Navy family (hubby served for 8) we have had to move quite a bit. While we have both loved exploring new cities, I'm not sure that we ever grew completely accustomed to the many "joys" of renting *note sarcasm* ;]  Now that my husband is a civilian, we are finally ready to put down roots in our hometown and start our lives in our first true "home" together. Of course I will be taking all of my favorite beauties along with us on our journey. I will be sharing our new home decisions, trials, tribulations and exciting updates with all of you!  So far our experience has been a
